Animade’s Interactive Christmas Card
It’s never too late to feed Santa! I found this interactive Christmas card by Animade to be particularly creative. It’s a simple site where you feed Santa Claus presents. I won’t spoil it for you, but it’s a fun little gem that you should check out for yourself.

Spotify’s Year in Music 2014
At the end of every year, Spotify releases a “Year in Music” site that shows that year’s music trends. They take huge amounts of listening data from all over the world, and aggregate it into a beautifully designed site for all of us to digest. I find it particularly fascinating when they link their data trends to real-world events, such as when Brazil’s listening levels saw a huge dip in the hours following their devastating 7-1 World Cup defeat to Germany. Additionally, Idina Menzel’s “Let it Go” from the hit Disney movie Frozen surged after she won the 2014 Oscar for Best Song. At scale, data can uncover some very interesting facts.

College football uniforms by Under Armour
Under Armour’s design team pulls out some of the craziest uniforms in college football. With the season well under way, this piece by USA Today highlights the “behind-the-scenes” of uniform design—something which can provoke so much public discussion, but rarely about the process. While I might not necessarily love every design they come up with, I can certainly respect the amount of thought put into them, and boldness of the designers in conjunction with athletic programs to put them out there.
The UX of Tissot’s Watch
I recently came across this short blog post highlighting a simple, intuitive feature of the Tissot watch: when the battery is low, the second hand moves only every four seconds, but still shows the correct time. This is quite an elegant solution. Rather than disappointing the user with a defunct watch, it simply warns them of the problem before it happens. It doesn’t clutter the watch face with extra icons, it doesn’t interrupt the user, it doesn’t just stop working. The best UI is less UI.
Reaching Inbox Zero in Mailbox
Mailbox is an email app with the goal of making the email experience simpler and faster. I personally use it. It makes me deal with my email, rather than having messages drift in my inbox forever. A fun little feature that I appreciate is their daily inbox zero picture, which is a different image every day, curated from Instagram, that appears when you’ve cleared everything out of your inbox. Tapping on the image from the mobile app enlarges it, and clicking it on desktop takes you to the image on Instagram’s website. Not only is it a pleasant way to reach a clean inbox, but it’s also a great way to feature photographers and create a community from it. For their first year anniversary, Mailbox even created a microsite that shows all of the daily inbox images for their first year.
